Lipofilling - what is it?

Lipofilling (or structural fat grafting) is a minimally invasive plastic surgery. It is the extraction of adipose tissue from the patient’s problem area with the subsequent injection into the areas necessary for correction of the face or body.

The purpose of this surgery is to recover the lost volume and improve the quality of the skin covering, which happens because of the fact that in our fat there is a small amount of sex hormones.

Pros of lipofilling

  • Small invasiveness = no scars.
  • Absence of allergic reactions.
  • Double benefit (weight loss + skin smoothing, for example).
  • No need for specific training.

At the initial consultation, the doctor indicates the donor zone, from which the adipose tissue will be withdrawn. As a rule, these are problematic places, in which, depending on the figure type and the genetic predisposition, there are always excess fat deposits.

Donor areas for lipofilling might be:

• stomach,

• waist ("side") area.

Areas of the face that are relevant for correction:

• temporal zone,

• cheekbones,

• cheeks,

• chin,

• under eyes area,

• lips (correction and increase in volume),

• nasolabial, lip and chin folds.

Usually we are asked for complex lipofilling of the face, in order to immediately correct the oval and smooth out all age-related wrinkles.

Lipofilling of the body is performed on a request to increase the volume of the hips (buttocks) or breast size.

If the patient has no health problems and is in a good condition, the surgeon can schedule the date for surgery at the primary consultation. In case of any doubts, the doctor writes out requisition for tests, ultrasound.

1. Anesthesia.

Face lipofilling is normally conducted under local anesthesia, while body lipofilling (e.g. mammary glands or buttocks) is always performed under general anesthesia.

2. Auto fat taking out.

The doctor using microcannulas removes a small amount of adipose tissue from the problem donor area. The puncture site is neatly stitched. There is no scar.

3. Treatment of adipose tissue with a solution.

After treatment, fat becomes a PRP graft.

4. Transplantation of adipose tissue.

The intake of pre-treated adipose tissue into problem areas in which there is a volume deficit.

Fat taking out is usually single-shot. However, sometimes doctors freeze the patient's fatty tissue, since lipofilling quite often requires 1-2 additional correction procedures. These moments are discussed with each patient individually.

The whole surgery usually takes from 40 minutes (in case of face lipofilling) to 2 hours (if the doctor conducts lipofilling of the mammary glands).

Additional Information

If you decide to do a general face lipofilling, the doctor will not neglect the zone under the eyes, which often suffers from swelling and bruising. In this case, an autoimmune graft is taken from the inner side of the thigh and knees. Microcannulas of 0.8 mm, which are used to intake fat, help to prevent damage to the vessels of the face.

Note that for the face it usually takes about 30 ml of fat, 3 ml per each correction zone. The body requires at least 600 ml.

Rehabilitation Period after lipofilling

Lipofilling today is one of the safest operations. Rejection of their own tissue is impossible, so side effects are virtually eliminated.

If talking about body lipofilling, then it is necessary to wear a special corset for 2-4 weeks. There will be swelling and small bruises that will disappear after 8-14 days. This is absolutely normal as it's a plastic surgery!

It happens that fat quickly resolves. The problem is solved by an additional correction.

How much the effect is held depends on the corrected zones, the individual characteristics of the organism and whether correction has been made.

When is it better to refuse from lipofilling to avoid complications?

There are not many contraindications to the surgery. These include general - mental and cancer diseases, inflammation. In general, for the surgeon a good physical condition of the patient is very important.
